Statement of Purpose

Statement of purpose

At O₂ Care, our mission is to make a lasting and positive impact on the lives of young adults—particularly those with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or mental health needs—as they embark on their journey toward independent living. We understand the unique challenges faced by each individual and are committed to providing a nurturing, supportive, and adaptive environment that enables their growth, development, and confidence.

Our organisation is built on strong principles and values that underpin high-quality residential services for young adults with additional needs. With a collective experience of more than 50 years, our dedicated team brings a wealth of expertise in the social care sector, with a particular focus on supporting young adults with learning disabilities and associated conditions as they transition into independence.

Our approach is rooted in an unwavering commitment to person-centred care. We ensure that every individual’s needs, preferences, communication styles, and aspirations remain at the heart of the support they receive. We aim to provide a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment that nurtures personal development while equipping young adults with the essential skills for independent living.

We are proud of our Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), which includes a Consultant Psychiatrist, Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Consultant, Vocational Therapist, and Psychologist. Every individual who joins our service will have access to this expert team. As an additional service available at the request of the local authority. From the outset, a tailored care and support plan will be developed to meet their specific needs. For those with learning disabilities or autism, this may include personalised communication strategies, sensory support, and adapted learning opportunities.

Our services are further strengthened by the leadership of our Nominated Responsible Individual, a consultant in the NHS with over 25 years of experience in healthcare. Under his guidance, O₂ Care provides a compassionate, bespoke service designed to meet the unique needs of every service user.

Key Elements of Our Residential Services for Young Adults
    • 1. Holistic Support: Our commitment goes beyond immediate care. We provide comprehensive support for emotional well-being, education, vocational opportunities, and daily living skills. This includes access to education and employment pathways, life skills training, tailored mental health support, and opportunities to build positive social connections.
    • 2. Independence and Autonomy: Promoting independence is central to our ethos. We create opportunities for young adults to make informed choices, build self-confidence, and develop decision-making skills. By encouraging self-advocacy and offering personalised guidance and communication tools, we equip them to thrive as adults.
    • 3. Specialist Adaptations: We adapt our methods to suit each individual, recognising the diverse needs of young people with learning disabilities, autism, or mental health challenges. This may include visual aids, structured routines, accessible resources, or sensory-friendly environments designed to reduce barriers and promote meaningful engagement.
    • 4. Collaborative Partnerships: We work closely with families, social workers, health professionals, schools, and community organisations. These strong partnerships ensure a consistent, joined-up approach that maximises opportunities and outcomes for the young people we support.
    • 5. Continuous Improvement: We are committed to learning and development. Through ongoing staff training in areas such as learning disabilities, autism, and mental health, alongside regular feedback and outcome monitoring, we ensure our services remain responsive, evidence-based, and tailored to evolving needs.

These key features align with the Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOEs) and reflect our commitment to promoting well-being, independence, and personal development for young adults with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and mental health needs.

At O₂ Care, our focus is on ensuring that every young adult has the opportunity to flourish, grow, and reach their fullest potential as they move into independent living.

Based in Greater Manchester, we are proud to serve our community with dedication, compassion, and excellence.
